Mini book review: the hunger

This book was excellently written. Alma Katsu is a master wordsmith. Very vivid characters and scenes, you felt like you were there. My only frustration with this book is the pacing. Nothing really scary happened until the book was about 84% done. There were a few very small things sprinkled throughout but I desperately wanted more. This is mainly a story of how hard and treacherous it was for the pioneers to cross America in the wagon train. That was the main focus of the story and that was very well done. The true horror element of the book shows up in the last 16% of the book. It was well written but a very, very slow burn. I love a well paced slow burn but this took a little too long to pick up for me and I struggled staying interested. I wish the ending reveals would have happened soon so we could get more of the fabulous horror that was in store for us!

Side note: I just want to lovingly share a trigger warning for those who are triggered by mentions of CSA and sexual violence.
