You really need to find the tools that fit best with your writing routine. I have tried handwriting and multiple writing platforms, but my favorite is Scrivener and Microsoft Word. For me, I love using Scrivener to first write out my book. I definitely do not use it to its full potential, but I like having the characters right there, the visual layout of the chapters, being able to quickly see scenes that are in the past vs present, and being able to take down quick notes while writing chapters. Once it is done I print it out to edit by hand. Then I update the manuscript in Microsoft Word.
